Thompson's is super cheap and super cheerful. Packed to the rafters at the weekend with crowds of people drawn in by the £2.50 doubles offer (it used to be £2.00, oh how I miss those days!) and the pop and dance played by the DJs.

There are often cabaret nights (including male strippers, not for the faint hearted!) and the bar is open 'til very late at the weekends.

A word of warning: take ID, no matter how old you look. The bar staff are very fond of ID-ing just about everyone and won't budge if you haven't got any.

Where -else- can you find pop music even -I- recognise, cougar-ish ladies who must have been at least in their forties, and Jerry Springer clips on the telly showing half-dressed overweight people smearing pie all over one another?

On the upside, at least a handful of boys were dancing, I witnessed a few pockets of socialisation, and the drinks are staggeringly cheap. I could recommend dropping in to score yourself a baseline medication level before moving on to less trashy stomping grounds.

Oh. And for the touristy-inclined, we had a bloke take our photo then successfully sell a resulting picture-keychain to one of our party for about five quid (if memory serves). Well done, sir!

Worst bar I've ever been in.
A kind of macabre take on a tacky British legion or council faced social hall that a gay friend of mine said made him "reconsider things"!
In her courageous bid to show she could mix it with the boys, the female bouncer is needlessly aggressive and treats what would be a comparatively cushy door job like some kind of military assault in the middle east.
The music is terrible, taking you through the very worst of what the 1990's had to offer.
This place is an insulting parody of a gay club and is a blot on the village itself.

I love the music here , and i have many good memories of this place. However , there are a lot of drugs all over the place.
